Andrew Black begins the first in a new series of artist talks at Transmission.
Shifting between moments of self-reflection and humour, Andrew’s work addresses a number of his own constructed personas. He’s interested in pulling these apart or maybe shattering them for good. There’s the persona of the artist and that of the homosexual male and then the role of the painter and the writer, the performer and the collaborator. Within Andrew's work all these things tussle up against one another, sort of bringing up issues of privilege, guilt, shame, anxiety, consent, collaboration, pornography, gender, subjectivity, sexuality, relationships, Glasgow, fun, fear, sharing stuff with people (in no real order).
Glasgow City Arts spoke with the artist last year in an exclusive interview - http://www.glasgowcityarts.com/blog/2015/5/15/interview-with-andrew-black?rq=andrew%20black
