Following the success of recent Pecha Kucha events, The Whisky Bond has announced that the next event in the series will be curated by Make Works, a design company that finds factories for designers and makers. Pecha Kucha 23: Materials, Manufacturing, Machines, will be held on 16 April at the Whisky Bond's Distillery space.
A Japanese-inspired presentation style, where 20 slides are shown for 20 seconds each, Pecha Kucha allows people to watch multiple speakers present very concise and fast-paced talks. A typical Pecha Kucha night will comprise between eight and 14 presentations.
Curated by Make Works (www.makeworks.co.uk) and produced by TAKTAL (www.taktal.com), the event's theme will be Materials, Manufacturing, Machines. The event will run between 6pm and 8.30pm at The Whisky Bond with tickets costing £6 (£4 concession). Tickets are available at http://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/pecha-kucha-materials-manufacturing-machines-tickets-16138692263?aff=es2
Presenters at this Pecha Kucha will include Geoff Lockett (Jet Cut It), Simon Harlow (Silo Design and Build), Sollii Brodie (BeFab Be Creative) Glasgow Press and Wendy Murray, MYB Textiles / Mill.
The Whisky Bond, where the event will be held, is one of Glasgow’s leading commercial hubs for creative businesses and has recently completed work on its 30,000 sq. ft. second phase of office and studio workspace. Located on Glasgow’s Canal at the heart of the newly emerging Speirs Locks district – just a ten minute walk from both Cowcaddens and St George’s Cross Subway Stations - TWB spreads out over seven floors and offers 100,000 sq. ft. of space to those working mainly in the creative and cultural industries. The Distillery is The Whisky Bond's co-working space. More than 20 new businesses have moved to The Whisky Bond since the completion of the second phase in late 2014.
Helen Teeling of creative agency TAKTAL, located at The Whisky Bond and producers of the event, said: “This is the third Pecha Kucha evening we've hosted and we're really excited to be working with Make Works, who are curating the line up of speakers around the theme of Materials, Manufacturing, Machines. This is set to be an evening of materials and manufacturing geekery where the technicians, material specialists and fabricators are celebrated - they'll be highlighting the production process and uncovering how things are made. This kind of event suits The Whisky Bond perfectly as we have a diverse group of tenants whose businesses are based around design, production and product development.
“Pecha Kucha is a global events series that has gone viral with a huge online following and events in over 700 cities. It is a fantastic way to hear several very varied, concise and focused presentations, something that appeals to our audience here who enjoy both the topics and the very focused format. Our events programme at The Whisky Bond aims to promote connections between the arts, creative and business communities and an event like Pecha Kucha is an ideal format for way to do this.“
